About Antonia Portage

There are things Antonia Portage knows and does not discuss, and she would appreciate that distinction being respected.

She has been introduced, more than once, to men whose arrival could stop a conversation cold — and who never seemed to notice they'd done it. She has watched a woman disarm an entire dinner party without raising her voice, then leave before dessert, unbothered, as though she'd merely stepped out for air. She has learned, over the years, which houses to enter and which invitations to decline, and she no longer apologizes for either instinct.

She did not begin writing to invent a world. She began, she says, because some things are easier to carry once you've given them somewhere else to live.

The Kalos Chronicles is what came of that: a civilization hidden inside our own, wealthy, extraordinarily old, predatory, and very well-mannered about its appetites.

Antonia insists this is fiction.

She insists it convincingly, the way people do when they've had a great deal of practice.

Antonia has never confirmed that she is the woman standing above Chicago in the photograph on this page. She has also never denied it. Draw whatever conclusion makes the city more interesting to you.

Very little reliable biographical information about Antonia Portage appears on this page. This is intentional. She has found that people are generally more interesting when they don't explain everything.
